Indonesian ship fire leaves 23 dead and 17 missing



No less than 23 individuals were killed and 17 others missing after a ship burst into flames on Sunday off the shore of Indonesia's capital Jakarta, authorities said.

The vessel was conveying more than 230 individuals from Jakarta's port of Muara Angke to Tidung, a resort island in the Kepulauan Seribu chain, when it burst into flames, authorities said. A large portion of the travelers were Indonesians commending the New Year's vacation, as per neighborhood media reports.

Seply Madreta, an authority from the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency, said the fire gutted around a large portion of the vessel. He said in regards to 22 harmed casualties were hurried to healing facilities, and 23 bodies had been recuperated.

Twenty bodies that were found inside the vessel were singed to the point of being unrecognizable and were exchanged to a police clinic for recognizable proof, said Colonel Umar Shahab of the Jakarta police's wellbeing office.

Another lady told the TV station that she and different travelers were protected by a little vessel.

Authorities said more than 230 individuals were on board the ship, yet the show demonstrated that exclusive 100 were enrolled as travelers, alongside six crew members, said Denny Wahyu Haryanto, leader of the calamity alleviation office.
